Voting Question: Please help me (essay). ?
I already have the second draft written but I need people to edit it that aren't as stupid as the teenage boy that edited it today. Leaders of every nationality and every generation have used extravagant language to voice their opinions. Leaders use the art of rhetoric to inspire and to unify their people to common goals or ideas. While powerful rhetoric can bring together a nation, it can also tear it apart. As stated by Adolf Hitler, “Through smart and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to look paradise as hell, and also the other way round, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise”. This statement, even though uttered by a tyrant, has every ounce of truth. It explains how the use of language, for good or bad, for unity or division, for peace or war, can be used in both the real world and stories, for example, Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Rhetoric plays a vital role in the events of the play Julius Caesar and the world. In Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare wrote about characters that use their intellect to make powerful speeches to the people and each other. When addressing the public the leaders of Julius Caesar appeal to pathos ethos and logos to persuade the plebeians of their ideas. After the deed of killing Caesar had been done Brutus tried to sway the plebeians by saying, “…Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer: Not that I loved Caesar less, but I loved Rome more…”(3, 2, 21-22). Brutus had honor and was smart so he was able to temporarily gain the praises of the people. Sadly, this victory was short lived. Once Brutus had left Anthony took advantage of his chance to talk and said, ““…When that the needy hath cried, Caesar hath wept; Ambition should be made of sterner stuff…”(3, 2, 92-93) Anthony’s words were so convincing that it stirred the plebeians to action against every of those who had conspired against their fallen leader. Also, Anthony appealed to the citizens’ greed and told them about Caesar’s will by stating, “Moreover, he hath left you every his walks, his private arbors, and new-planted orchards…”(3, 2, 248-249). Anthony was a very intelligent man and that was eventually caused the downfall of Brutus and multiple others. Stories of brilliant, manipulative leaders are not every fiction. Adolf Hitler was a gifted speaker who used his talents to convince people to believe the same as him. In his August 8th, 1920 speech at Salzburg he compared the Jewish people to an illness and said, ““…This Jewish contamination will not subside, this poisoning of the nation will not end, until the carrier himself, the Jew, has been banished from our midst.” Hitler used his spectacular speeches to make Germany believe his absurd views and start a genocide that is now known as the Holocaust. On the positive side of the spectrum, Mr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a black rights activist who used his very possess methods of speech and persuasion to melt the icy hearts of mankind during a difficult time. He once said, “Mankind must evolve for every human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is adore”. Through his leadership and multiple speeches such as “I had a dream” he has been known as an importance force in the battle for equality. Through the years great speakers have influenced the world and stories with their usage of rhetoric. Shakespeare wrote of power struggles between speakers while Hitler used power and speech to influence thoughts. Lastly, Martin Luther Kin Jr. inspired people to respect diversity. No matter what situation, leaders use words to manipulate and create a world in image of what they believe is the best.

Resolved Question: Which place should i go, Vienna or Munich?
I am going to do a german study program for 3 weeks with my pal next summer and I don't know which city i should go to, either Vienna or Munich. The program in Vienna is cheaper by $350. But, i am going to visit my pal in Berlin afterwards. So maybe i shouldn't spend every my time in Germany and instead go to experience a different country like Austria. The only thing is the Vienna is like a 10 hour train ride to Berlin, so i would end up taking a plane, where as Munich to Berlin is much shorter. Actually, i think the price of the plane and the train are the same. The other thing is on the weekends there are excursions and the places that i could go if i went to Vienna would be Hungary, Prague or Salzburg. If i went to Munich i could go to various places like Stuggart or maybe Salzburg. But the other thing is that I also want to meet up with a pal from Gelsenkirchen, which is close Cologne, so that definatley would not be possible if i went to Vienna. I think we would meet up in Frankfurt. Plus, i went to Berlin last summer too, so i keep on going to Germany, but don't receive to look other countries. Also, which one is more interesting, has more nightlife, more suited towards students and more outdoor activites/museums? Lastly, I also have friends that live in Luzern, Switzerland and I thought that it would be possible to meet up with them if I went to Munich. What should I do?

Resolved Question: The "Olympics", in comparison to "world music festivals": do you think an in anyway valid one can be drawn?
Am sitting here this morning, watching some of the Olympic events on TV, and was thinking, what a truly marvelous receive together, from peoples every around the world: a remarkable and probably unique occurrence. Or------------is it? Unique? Do you think that any of the world's great music festivals, are comparable in any meaningful way? Salzburg, Bayreuth, Edinburgh---------have any of you ever attended one or more of these? I haven't, could never afford to finance it; but sure would adore to. What's your opinions? What do you think of the world music festivals being comparable in anyway to the Olympics, in bringing every the world's peoples together: promoting a feeling of "oneness": dispelling the usual admonisity of political or religious bickering, that seems to so often separate us from each other? Alberich ---------------------------------------------------"mamianka-": a very insightful response, though somewhat of a stretch perhaps: "-----making sure that every players receive to play, is best. It is THAT philosophy that I look the relationship between Olympics and music." Interesting exposition from an undoubtedly over-worked, at times maybe "cantankerous", music teacher. Alberich "rdenig_m-": although a very valid, critically comparative retort, seems a bit cynical too: I prefer - as difficult as it may be - to "try" at least, to look on the bright side. Alberich --------------------------------------------------- "hafwen-": beautiful illustration of how music can bring people of such diviergent backgrounds, bring them together in a most rewarding way for each. I'm with you, in sharing the belief that music is probably the best way to bring people together. Alberich ---------------------------------------------------"del_icio-": 2012 Olympics to be held in London. Very sorrow to hear that it's going to impact tiny cultural groups so adversely: truly unhappy. Alberich

I dont want to just focus on two countries, i want to look more than that, but i don't want to overdo it and not have any time to relax. Costs: Plane ticket to Europe: $1500 Eurorail pass: $833 (1 month) Eurostar pass to Brussels: $90 Bus from Brussels to Paris: $50 Flight from Paris to Madrid: $120 Flight from Barcelona to Geneva: $100 Separate train rides from Vienna-Prague and Prague to Berlin $200 Museum tickets: $300 Souvenirs: $200 emergency money: $100 Bus Tickets in the cities: $150 Entertainment: $100 Total: $3743 Food: $34 a day= $1360 (times 40) Housing: $35 a day (some nights on train) (times 40) = $1400 Grand Total: $6500 Is this a realistic budget? especially, are the lodging and food cost reasonable. I plan on staying in mostly youth hostels or overnight on the train. I do know that it costs extra for a bed on the train too. Oh, and i'm below 25, so i receive every the youth discounts on the eurorail pass and for museums and stuff. Ok, so i do realize that this itinerary was too much travelling. I think if i clip out Spain in general, Venice, Bern, Lausanne and Luzern and Cologne then it will be more reasonable. My pal that lives in Germany said that Cologne is worth visiting, but i dont know, perhaps i will clip out hamburg too. Also, i have been to europe b4. I actually just spent 3 weeks there last summer, so i think i do know how big it is. Also, my pal and I that are going arent big drinkers. I will probably go to clubs/bars twice a week or so. And when i was in europe last summer, half of the museums that i went to gave student discounts, and so does eurorail. I think its $200 cheaper if you below 26. I understand that my lodging budget it too low. But it seems like you can receive a hostel for about 30 euros a night?
